At some point in our lives, we all want to know if we are really successful. The reality is that success looks different for everyone. For some it’s financial freedom, for others it’s a great career, or travelling around the world. These seven golden rules give you clear tools to go in the right direction:
1. Change your mindset
The thing that holds us back the most is usually not our skills or financial situation, but our mindset. All too often, we focus on what we have, make or are, but if that is not known, you can’t take any steps. Look at how the market can know your product, how you can stand out when applying for a job, so they see why you are interesting and can offer the solution they are looking for.
2. Ask for help
Don’t be ashamed to realize you need help. The road to success was never meant to be traveled alone. Unfortunately, at school, we learn to work alone, but if we apply that to our work, we fail completely. Especially in our work, we have to learn to rely on colleagues and mentors, where mentors give you direction in finding success and keep you responsible.
3. Learn how to delegate
The world’s most successful people all have something in common: they delegate the awareness of their strengths and everything that deviates from them. The insight that a team can bring your success much faster is the golden rule. Find people around you who you can trust and who can work autonomously.
4. Embrace making mistakes
Mistakes are part of life and the road to success is littered with them. How quickly you achieve success depends primarily on how quickly you face up to your mistakes and learn from them. Mistakes are an indication of what you can do and a learning experience. Honestly, no one really likes to make mistakes, but the question is whether success would feel so good if we never failed on the road to it?
5. Invest in yourself
Always strive for a better version of yourself and never stop learning and studying. Knowledge is power and gaining knowledge takes time and energy, but starts with the decision to invest in yourself. For example, sign up for a course and start working with a mentor. If you get out of your comfort zone and start investing in yourself, you will also meet people who will motivate you more.
6. Write an action plan
Once you’ve determined what your success will look like, it’s time to write a plan of how to achieve it. Your action plan for success. Not a booklet that’s then kept in the closet, but one that is open, next to your breakfast plate. Working out the plan and steps you need to take, and consciously reviewing them, is enough motivation for a third of the people to make them happen. Keep track of the steps you have already taken and do not hesitate to make adjustments as your insight into things grows.
7. Never give up
How would you like to be successful? Perseverance and consistency are the keys to achieving success. Giving up too quickly has cost too many geniuses their heads, and perseverance has already made many others succeed. If you really want to be successful, you will have to give everything for the pursuit of your goals and celebrate every victory to keep your motivation high.
